Bukan MTV Music Awards, ataupun American Music Awards, malam penganugrahan kali ini bertajuk NRJ Music Awards 2011. Ini adalah malam gemerlap dengan ritual red carpet untuk menghormati mereka yang terbaik di industri musik. Bintang-bintang berkumpul di Eropa untuk perayaan tahunan ke-12 NRJ Music Awards di Cannes, Perancis pada hari Sabtu (22/1).
Diadakan di Palais des Festivals et des Congres, nama-nama beken yang hadir seperti Shakira dan Usher. Keduanya tampil menawan pada saat kedatangan sebelum bersiap-siap untuk penampilan langsung mereka pada saat perayaan
Beberapa artis top lain yang muncul untuk acara tahunan ini termasuk Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, James Blunt, Jennifer, Joyce Jonathan, Melissa Mars, Inna, Amelie dan anggota keluarga Jackson Jermaine Jackson.
